OutBeam is an open wireless protocol that connects hundreds of different devices across a building including sensors, meters and controls. No wired collectors, no plug-in repeaters, and a full building can be installed in a few hours.
OutBeam brings a wide range of building applications online at a fraction of the cost of wired systems. It is also open: built on open APIs and protocols and already installed in tens of thousands of buildings, it lets your product tap into full-building wireless coverage without deploying a single piece of hardware.
Every OutBeam device runs on batteries, with a lifespan of up to 10 years. The network is the sensors themselves.
−110 dBm sensitivity and +27 dBm output punch through the concrete and steel of multifamily buildings.
Runwise Smart Control speaks BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, RS-485, and analog and digital I/O, so OutBeam data shows up where you already look.
OutBeam already powers Wireless Temperature Sensors, Wireless Leak Sensors, Wireless Riser Sensors, the Smart Gas Detector Mount, water and gas meters and a battery-powered Wireless Repeater. The full list and specs are below.
Sensors talk directly to Runwise Smart Control's onboard OutBeam gateway, with no separate network server and no site-wide gateway planning. In practice, most deployments go a layer or two deeper: OutBeam repeaters can relay through one another and continuously re-evaluate which path gives the strongest connection, so the network self-organizes for the best route rather than following one fixed hop. It's the self-organizing, multi-hop behavior large indoor networks need and general-purpose protocols weren't built for.
The sensor picks up a leak, a gas reading, a temperature change, or a meter pulse and sends it over the 915 MHz OutBeam radio.
The onboard gateway (−110 dBm sensitivity) decodes it, drives local control logic, and shows it on the touchscreen, relayed through the network's repeaters if the sensor is out of direct range.
BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, RS-485, and I/O expose the reading to your building automation system, while Runwise Smart Control's built-in cellular modem sends the sensor data to the Runwise cloud so it's viewable online.
